Tips To Get You Music Into iTunes

Just a quick tip today.  I just read a great article on how to get your music into iTunes over at the I Do Music blog.

There are a lot of things to consider when you’re looking to get your music into iTunes and actually getting it into the store is actually one of the easy parts.  Getting it to sell is another thing alltogether.

Beyond the things mentioned in the article about how to get into iTunes, I’d recommend that before you even get to that point, you work up a marketing plan.  Even if it’s only a $20 plan, (which will buy you just about 100 spins on internet radio – more on that in another post), you need some type of plan to market your music.  iTunes doesn’t do much to help an independent artist move units.  That’s all you.

Go check out that article if you’re ready for iTunes.

Nefarious will post your beats on his site

Came across the kid Nefarious hustling beats on my travels around the internet and he sells beats (nice ones) but he’s also looking to share the love and post other producers beats on his site.  Far as I can tell this is just to build within the community.  You can get your beats up there and tap into people checking his site.  Nothing wrong with that.

Fullerton California Beat Battle

Seattle Beat Battle – Red Bull Big Tune – 31 July 2009

Okay real quick – it looks like the Red Bull Big Tune Beat Battle is rolling through Seattle tomorrow night at The War Room.  Doors open at 9pm and you can get more detail at the Red Bull Big Tune website.

I checked out the website recently myself and found a bit of history there pretty interesting.  Turns out that the term “big tune” comes from the Jamaican sound set culture.  Different sets would create their own version of a song, so you’d have many versions of the same track for dj’s to spin.  Whichever one moved the crowd the most was dubbed… the big tune.

How Do You Promote Your Beats?

I’ve been looking into how hip hop and R&B producers promote their beats online.  There’s the beat sites of course like Soundclick and there’s myspace, but I’m looking for the real innovation from producers looking to either sell beats directly to artists or create a buzz for their instrumental albums or catalog of beats they’re trying to place with majors.

So far the simple web site approach is the main tool I’m finding in use across the net.

What are you doing to promote your beats and how’s it working.

I’ll be posting the best answers with links to the producers music.
